Glossary
Here is a helpful list of common terms and phrases you may see on our site:
Core – typically refers to the muscles of the abs, obliques, and lower back.
Dumbell – the smaller, handheld weights. They can come in one piece or adjustable with variable weights.
One-rep Max – your 1RM is the heaviest weight you can lift for one repeition on a specific exercise.
Plateau – the time in which your training progress stalls. This can signal overtraining or your body being too acclimated to the same workout.
Rep - repetitions; refers to a complete movement of an exercise. e.g. one pushup rep refers to one full down-and-up motion.
Set - consists of a number of consecutive exercise reps before stopping. e.g. 10 pushup reps may represent 1 pushup set.
Superset – Two sets done back-to-back with no rest. It can be the same exercise with different weights or two different exercises back-to-back.
